Who Has The Largest Army In Iraq?

   By Emelius at 5:33 PM

Al-Jazeera today has released a story that says that the insurgent Iraqi army may in fact be larger than the US military force in that country. It quotes the Iraqi intelligence service in saying that insurgent numbers are around 200,000 people and may even be double that. These numbers are in direct contradiction of the US's estimation of 5000-20000 full time and part time insurgents.

Defence experts have broadly accepted the new assessment as valid.

Bruce Hoffman, who served as an adviser to the US occupation in Iraq and now works for US-based thinktank Rand Corporation, said he believed the estimate, though it said it was impossible to know for sure.
