Republicans Will Rue The Day

Senate Democrat Leader Harry Reid said on Sunday that the Republicans "would rue the day" if they try to change the rules of filibuster on the Senate floor. Frist has labeled this the 'nuclear trigger'. At present it takes 60 votes to end a filibuster, but if the GOP has it's way, they would reduce this to a 51 vote, ensuring that the current majority would dominate control. While the current debate revolves around judicial nominees, the consequences would go well beyond and into other areas of debate.
"If they want to carry that through, it's a short-term victory for them, because they're not going to be in the majority forever," he said. "We're going to be in the majority. That's the way history is. And I think that they would rue the day they did that."
