      2 Democrats have crossed the line to join Bush in his campaign to privatize Social Security. Dem Senator Tom Carper joined ranks with Dem Senator Ben Nelson in supporting Bush. Add these two with other weak links in the fence, like Lieberman, and it looks like it might be a hard crunch. I can only assume that some Dems are speaking against the party platform in order to gain leverage and special interests.

"I don't believe that we should rule out the accounts," Carper said Friday in an interview. "We have a very low savings rate in this country and clearly need to find ways to stimulate savings, and I think we should be open to a wide range of ideas and not dismiss them out of hand."
